Who This Resource May Help
SEPTA Access Shared-Ride Program may be helpful for Philadelphia residents age 65 and older who need door-to-door transportation but do not need emergency medical transport. This may be useful for older adults who no longer drive, have trouble using regular buses or trains for certain trips, or need a more supportive option for appointments, errands, grocery shopping, pharmacy visits, senior center activities, or family visits.
For caregivers, this program may help fill a common gap: the older adult can still go places, but getting there safely and reliably has become harder.
What Caregivers Should Know Before Applying
SEPTA Access was formerly known as CCT Connect. SEPTA says CCT Connect officially rebranded to SEPTA Access as of July 1, 2024, though some vehicles may still show CCT Connect branding.
The Shared-Ride Program is a door-to-door ridesharing service for Philadelphia residents who are 65 or older. It is offered on a space-available basis and includes limited driver assistance. Rides must be reserved in advance.
This is not the same as ambulance transport, stretcher transport, or a private medical transportation company. It is public shared-ride transportation. The rider may travel with other passengers, and trips need to be planned ahead.
Services or Support Offered
The Shared-Ride Program provides door-to-door transportation within Philadelphia and to destinations within three miles of the city border in Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties.
Registered riders may use the program for many everyday transportation needs, including medical appointments, grocery trips, errands, pharmacy visits, social activities, and other local trips within the service area.
Reservations are required. SEPTA says reservations can be made one to three days in advance. Riders can call to make, cancel, or check on reservations.
Eligibility, Cost, or Registration Notes
To use the Philadelphia Shared-Ride Program, the rider must be a Philadelphia resident age 65 or older.
To register, the person must complete the Shared-Ride application and provide acceptable proof of age.
SEPTA says applicants can request an application from SEPTA Access Customer Service or print the application.
Once the application and proof of age are ready, the rider schedules an appointment at SEPTA headquarters at 1234 Market Street to receive a SEPTA Access Key card.
Registered Shared-Ride customers pay a reduced fare for each one-way trip within the service region. As of SEPTA’s current fare information, the program member fare is $5.75 for a one-way trip. Fares can change, so families should confirm current pricing before scheduling.
Questions Families May Want to Ask
Before applying for or using SEPTA Access Shared-Ride, caregivers may want to ask:
– Is my loved one eligible as a Philadelphia resident age 65 or older?
– What proof of age is accepted?
– How do we get the Shared-Ride application?
– Does my loved one need an appointment at 1234 Market Street to receive the SEPTA Access Key card?
– Does the program serve my loved one’s home address?
– Is the destination inside the service area?
– How far in advance should we reserve rides?
– Can the rider bring an escort or companion?
– What help does the driver provide at the door?
– Is the ride shared with other passengers?
– What happens if a medical appointment runs late?
– Can this be used for grocery shopping, pharmacy trips, or senior center visits?
– Would ADA Paratransit be more appropriate if my loved one has a disability that prevents use of regular SEPTA service?

Service Area
The Philadelphia Shared-Ride Program is for travel within the City of Philadelphia and to locations within three miles of the city’s border in Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties. Families outside Philadelphia should contact their county’s shared-ride coordinator.
Why This Listing Is Included
This listing is included because transportation can become one of the first practical problems families notice. A loved one may still be able to live at home, but missed appointments, grocery problems, or unsafe driving can create real risk.
SEPTA Access Shared-Ride may give eligible Philadelphia seniors a lower-cost way to keep getting to appointments, errands, and daily-life destinations without relying entirely on family members. It is best for planned trips, not urgent transportation.
